THE HOMILY

UNITY IS STRENGTH UNITY is the state of being in agreement and working together. The state of being joined together form a unit. STRENGTH means becoming successful in; • Physical • Brave • Power/influence • Opinion etc. PETER AND PAUL • Peter was directly called by Jesus and given the keys of the Kingdom(Matt. 16:16-19) • Paul on the other hand probably never met Jesus face to face and once a persecutor of the church. • Peter is portrayed in icons holding the keys in his hands. • Paul is also portrayed carrying either a sword or book. Peter and Paul were all different; • Peter was named Apostles to Jesus. • Paul was an Apostle to the Gentiles. Paul once had public argument with Peter on whether Jewish Christians could eat together with Gentiles Christians (Gal. 2). AGREEMENT Peter and Paul did not agree in life but agreed in death. They both suffered martyrdom in Rome, almost the same year. 64AD and 67AD. The early church reorganized both as pillars of the church so they were depicted in an icon where both are carrying the church. THE MESSAGE Christians should know that though we are different but united in purpose. We should know, that was why Paul had to write the letter to the Corinthians. They were divided by paying allegiance to the different Apostles. By; Rev. Fr. Clement Addo Fordwour. 29th June, 2014.
